Let’s suppose that in the Autumn of 2020 in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring in the Southern Hemisphere, whilst going through some of the toughest challenges humanity has faced, we used crisis as an opportunity for transformation. Imagine that each of us decided to create our lives anew and make the world a better place. A world where human and planetary flourishing was the benchmark that determined our actions and the way we lived, a time when we chose to live as the best versions of ourselves.
The 12 Virtues are inner qualities that are seeds of the soul and can be developed through mindful, meditative practice. Virtues were spoken of by Aristotle, introduced into the Theosophical Society and refined by Rudolf Steiner, as ways of being and acting that could be key factors in literally changing our world. They are a path of development that serves ‘right’ conduct, not by being a virtuous person, but by intentionally shifting our behaviours; consciously, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
In 2001 I began working with the virtues to bring about my own transformation and build strength during a time when I was facing my own personal crisis. I believe this is the time to bring this study back into our lives.
In the last series of The 12 Virtues, participants joined knowing that a new type of personal and leadership development is needed to face these uncertain times. Some were rebuilding their lives, others were intent on developing new ways of living to create a flourishing future for themselves, and there were others who knew that a new kind of leadership is needed to transform lives and business.
“The work of the 12 Virtues guided by Karen Downes has led to a revelation that has fundamentally changed my approach to life's celebrations and obstacles. In all of my days ahead, I will apply the wisdom in these virtues to every contribution I make in the world.” - 12 Virtues participant
The 12 Virtues webinar series is both a spiritual and practical approach to building greater resourcefulness, strength and resilience, whilst bringing grace and peace of mind. This series involves inquiry, but also training and daily practice that strengthens the very best of our human nature. The virtues can be our pillars of strength from which to live a life that ensures we bring the best of ourselves forward in everything we do.
The next 12-week series will commence on the 24th September this year. The sessions will enable you to delve deeply into these soul qualities and practice them in daily life, and, as a result; live true to what matters most to you in uncertain times; make decisions with discernment and embody your higher morals and ethics. I know this work is so important at this time. These are ancient truths that lie as seeds of potential within each of us.
“This course has been the most enlightening work I have experienced, personally, at the soul level and practically as it’s applied in my daily outer world.” - 12 Virtues participant
Please join us on this journey. In each session we will explore, meditate upon and practice one of the virtues. Living true to the virtues gives greater direction, purpose and meaning to how we live.
